John and Adam Woods, the father and son team behind Chester-based classic and modern car, MG specialist, John Woods Motorcare, hosted their second annual Open Day on the 30th March. Various Classic Cars turned up on the day including a very rare 1936 MG SA, also Graham Walker MG Chester provided their New MG3 Demonstrator for showing alongside John Woods Motorcare’s New MG6.
John Woods Motorcare was established in 1993. John Woods Motorcare offers a competitively-priced and reliable service while aiming to gain customers’ confidence and develop lasting relationships with them by providing honest, one-to-one advice. The business has, as a result of that approach, established itself as the leading Classic Car and independent MG specialist serving Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales – indeed, that was reflected by the number of Classic Car owners who attended the Open Day to show their support for John and his team.
In addition to the repair and servicing of Modern and Classic Cars, John Woods Motorcare can undertake restoration work – most recently, John, Adam and Dell Roberts (Classic Car Restorer) have restored a 1991 Mini Cooper for a customer and they are currently working on a 1965 Austin Healey Sprite. The business also has an expanding Parts Department which currently sells a wide selection of parts for Classic Cars and New MG3 and MG6 Aftermarket accessories such as anti-slip mats, mud flaps, chrome grilles and door handles, bumper and sill protectors and daytime running lights – some of these items can be seen on John’s own MG6.
John Woods Motorcare is also one of the first Garage businesses in the UK to join the just-launched Classic Friendly network co-founded by Practical Classics’ former Technical Editor and co-Presenter of the National Geographic Channel’s Car SoS programme, Fuzz Townshend. Fuzz attended the Open Day and made the official announcement of John Woods Motorcare’s appointment as a Classic Friendly Accredited Garage. Joining this new scheme shows that John remains committed to playing his part in preserving the UK’s classic car parc.
John and Classic Friendly Limited Director Fuzz Townshend both acknowledge that an increasing number of classic car owners no longer possess what Fuzz describes as “the Sunday morning skills” necessary to ensure that their classic car complies with the legal requirement of being safe and in a proper condition to be on the road – a legal obligation which remains even though vehicles registered before the 1st January, 1960 are no longer required to undergo an annual MoT.
A few garages have joined the Classic Friendly network to date but Fuzz Townshend says that, with enquiries being received on an almost daily basis, he hopes that the network will provide UK-wide coverage by the end of this year. However, in the meantime, John Woods Motorcare is one of the first Classic Friendly garages to offer the Classic Friendly Annual Safety Inspection, Classic Friendly Buyer/Seller Inspection and Classic Friendly Menu Servicing to customers.
